Employer Led Students Gain Industry Insights

Students gained industry insights during February half term as they completed work placements as part of the Employer Led Programme.

South Hunsley Sixth Form students, Neve B and Jessica S, both applied for the Employer Led Programme to gain employability skills and experiences and spent two days at RB in Hull. RB is a multinational consumer goods company who produce health, hygiene and home products and Neve and Jessica both found the experience extremely valuable.

Neve, who has ambitions of working in the pharmaceutical sector, said: “I spoke with many different people at RB and learnt about the different departments. I also helped to work on a project plan and was given a tour of the factory. I really enjoyed going through the analytical lab as it is a really extensive process and I was surprised at how in depth the testing was."

“The work placement at RB has definitely enhanced my ambitions about moving into the pharmaceutical industry as I now have a bigger and better picture of what the industry consists of. I found the whole process really interesting and engaging."

Jessica, who has already enjoyed two previous placements at RB, returned for a third time and said: “In all three of my placements I worked in Research and Development but for different departments who were responsible for separate brands (Air Wick, Optrex and Nurofen). All were very interesting and allowed me to gain knowledge of how the products are designed, tested and made.”

“The placements have allowed me to see what working in an exciting company environment is like and the experience has increased my confidence in communicating with different people within a new environment. For me, the most enjoyable part of all my work placements was going in the laboratories in Research and Development. Overall, it has been an amazing experience so far and something that I hope will definitely stand out on my CV.”

As well as RB, the Employer Led Programme links students with over 50 local businesses including, University of Hull, 360 Accountants, eskimosoup and Swift Group. To find out more about the Employer Led Programme click here.
