South Hunsley School awarded Centre of Excellence by IQM

Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do at South Hunsley and is a hallmark of a highly effective school.  For this reason, the school applied to be assessed for the Inclusion Quality Mark in January of 2019.  After a detailed 42 page evaluation was completed and submitted to the IQM for consideration the school undertook a two day on site assessment in July 2019. 

During the assessment the examiner met with a number of students, staff and external agencies with whom we work.  The assessor also undertook a learning walk to see teaching and learning in action, reviewed the school’s policies and procedures and spoke to the leader of inclusion from the school’s Governing Body and the Chair of Governors. 

Over the summer break we were delighted to learn that we had been successful in not only gaining the IQM award but that we had also achieved the higher level of Centre of Excellence; an accolade that fewer than 300 schools across the country hold.  Early in the autumn term Assistant Headteacher for Safeguarding and Inclusion, Chris Major and Trust Director for SEND, Jo Donkersloot collected the award on behalf of the school from the Institute of Directors in London.

A passage from the report reads:  “The Inclusion Lead and team work tirelessly to ensure they provide the best for the children in their care. They work hard to ensure there is shared understanding of inclusivity and the whole school regard this as a priority area. “We want all our students to have a love for learning, but we realise that some students need this aspect of their school lives nurturing. We want all our students to reach their full potential, but we know for some students practical help will be needed. We also want our students to recognise their individual talents and abilities and achieve their goals” The team are prepared to go above and beyond expectations. Staff and Senior Leaders are committed to the learning and development of the whole child.”
