Year 8B Football Team crowned Humberside Cup Champions

South Hunsley’s Year 8B team have recently been crowned Humberside Cup Champions after facing St Mary’s in the final on Friday 20 April.

After finding themselves 1-0 down at half time, South Hunsley conceded again and were losing 2-0 before our first goal came from Ajay H, who scored a header from a great cross from Joel G.

In the last five minutes with great passing build up play from the defence to the attack, the ball was played through to Thomas H from Oscar M, which he coolly slotted away his shot, 2-2!! The game had come to an end and we had 5 minutes extra time to try for a winning goal. Not many chances were created from either side, but St Mary’s had a late chance which was denied by South Hunsley Goal Keeper, Oliver D. The whistle blew and the game went to penalties.

South Hunsley were first to take a penalty with Seth M slotting one home. St Marys scored their first and second but missed their third. Joel G and Jacob S scored South Hunsley’s next two penalties but a very unfortunate penalty by Tom D gave St Mary`s some revived hope. South Hunsley and St Mary`s again scored their next penalty, forcing it to go to sudden death.

A penalty by Will H put the pressure on St Mary`s to score but a great save by the South Hunsley goalkeeper won the Humberside Cup for South Hunsley.

A greatly contested game by both sides, well done to everyone involved.
