7 March 2019
World Book Day is an opportunity to remember that books and stories are a valuable, enjoyable and life-enhancing resource for everyone. To celebrate 22 years of World Book Day our Librarians, Mrs Billany and Mrs Carrick, have organised a week of all things booky, including:
A Book Tasting
Today students were invited to attend a ‘book tasting’ at lunch time. The library was transformed into a café – complete with tablecloths, ‘Book Tasting’ menus and complimentary dessert! Over lunch, students were asked to rate each course (book), from the menu and were given the option to recommend the book to other readers by using a score card.
Classics to comics - throughout the week students could enter a competition to transform a classic story into a comic. We had some fabulous entries – and the winner was allowed to choose a prize from the library goody box.
Writes of Passage
Student and staff have been contributing to a ‘Writes of Passage’ display – sharing books that have inspired or changed them in some way. Prizes and House Points have been awarded for the brilliant contributions.
Story in 5 parts
Throughout the day, Years 7, 8 and 9 all participated in the story in 5 parts. At the start of each lesson their teacher read out a short section from ‘A Dip in the Pool’ by Roald Dahl. The story began in period 1 and will finish in period 5.
Library Loyalty cards
Any student handing in a completed Loyalty card this week will receive an extra prize.
World Book Day Tokens
This week, Years 7 and 8 have received their World Book Day tokens. These tokens can be redeemed in any participating book shop and supermarket, either for a World Book Day book or towards the cost of a book of their choice.
